After a practice test, it is tempting to say, “Need more study.” But that answer is usually too broad. Use this checklist to see what kind of mistake pattern is actually showing up.
Checklist
- Did the student misread what the question asked for?
- Did they choose a method before setting up the problem properly?
- Did algebraic manipulation cause the wrong final answer?
- Did the answer look unreasonable, but still go unchecked?
- Did time pressure change the quality of decision-making?
What to do with the answers
If most errors are setup errors, the student needs slower translation practice. If most errors are algebraic, the student needs foundation repair. If most errors happen late in the section, pacing strategy becomes important.
A checklist like this helps families avoid treating every weak score as the same kind of problem.
